Mera started fencing at age 11. She had seen a fencing camp
offered at a local recreation center and thought it would be fun to try. She
immediately took to the sport and hasn't looked back since. Naturally athletic,
Mera has participated on numerous school teams and made the varsity team in
track during her freshman year. She has also been part of the swimming, soccer
and basketball teams. In 2005 Mera earned her place to the U.S. National Cadet
team and traveled to the Cadet World Championships in Linz Austria. In her first
World Championship event she did very well finishing #22.
