Hungary Men's and Women's Junior World Cup, Jan 2002
Our elite fencers had good results as they
traveled to
Budapest, Hungary for the Men's and Women's Junior World Cup.
On the women's side, Mariel Zagunis
placed 10th,
Valerie Providenza 38th and Angela Vincent 91st in a filed of 103
competitors.
This was the largest number of participants in a Junior Women's Sabre
World
Cup to date.
The OFA Junior Men also faired well in
Budapest. Marten
Zagunis was the highest American finish at 14th place. Patrick Ghattas
followed him at 25th and Ian Farr was 98th in a filed of 113
competitors.

Springs, NY Youth National Circuit, Jan 4-6, 2002
5 Medals come home to Oregon from the Saratoga
Springs,
NY Youth National Circuit event held on January 4-6. OFA fencers
proudly brought home 2 GOLDS and 1
Silver as well as fencers in the finals at 6th and 8th
places. Becca Ward took the Gold in the Y12 Sabre easily dominating the
field of fencers. Caity Thompson just as easily won her Gold in the Y14
women's sabre. Becca again showed her up and coming strength in the
weapon
by taking second to Caity in this event. Our other finalists were in
the
men's Y12 where Calvin Starhorn-Brown placed 6th and Bobby Thompson
finished
8th. Congratulations fencers!
